Michelle Lova, born in 1989 in Essen, Germany, is a contemporary artist residing and working in Berlin, Germany. Her artistic practice comprises painting and drawing. Lova lived and worked in Australia and spend stages of her live in the United States, Latin America as well as in different parts of Europe. As a result, her artistic practice is nourished by a distinct empathy and cultural sensitivity.
Michelle Lova is well known for her figured and almost floating drawings, representing a composite standpoint of an accelerating meritocracy. The vivid drawings of merging and evidently boundless subjects are exploring the limits of intuition. Lova's paintings with oil or acrylics pursuit a more topical work and are rooted in the observation of the relationship between humans and humans, as well as humans and nature. The artist pulls from a great sensitivity to her environment and from biographic elements. She depicts scenes of societal estrangement as well as the detaching between humans and their natural habitat. On the contrary, scenes of rapprochement, oneness and loyalty are reoccurring topics throughout her work. This reflects in a representational, expressive painting practice and through blending subject and object or contrasting quiet and vivid areas.
The artist is founding member of the art collective Artyshox and part of the Galerie Kollaborativ in Berlin with curational contributions.
